Feeling Like A Princess

If you would of asked me two years ago if I was excited for prom I probably would of looked at you with confusion and a distinct nervousness. However, two years later I found myself tossing and turning in bed the night before. Unlike an American school we never really all get together for any cause so this was the first time.
One of the main big 'fears' around prom at my school in particular was not having a date. I did also share this fear until I unexpectedly got a boyfriend. I say that as if i brought him from a shop... I didn't. Eventually we had it all arranged me and my three friends Lily, Megan and Molly would all go with our dates. This then caused our first struggle. Trying to avoid the typical limousine the hunt began for something original, but not too out there that would fit eight people. We persevered for months until worry started to plague us all. Ironically we ended up arriving to prom in a white limousine...

As much as going to prom with a date is the typical thing to do I don't think it would of been the same if I didn't also spend it with friends I've cared about all through secondary school. We all went to Lily's house and there was so many camera's and people sometimes you didn't know where to look! The pictures where we're all talking or not looking at the camera have quickly become my favourite.

Time for thousands of pictures in all different combinations of people, these ones are from before Molly and Jamie arrived... someone had to be late! Jack and I are also the most awkward people whenever a camera comes out so the pictures of the two of us are limited aha.

It wouldn't be prom without a disaster, however small. Here you can see both Lily and Jack's concern as I panic. You may think something serious has happened; did I perhaps spill a drink all down myself? Nope. I accidentally squished a tiny bug in the layers of my dress. It was entirely unnoticeable to anyone that I hadn't told!

Here's one of the few photos of us outside the limousine. We were pretty lucky there are a few stories of people's cars crashing into small ponds and breaking down! We made it to The Rayleigh Club where our prom was being held in one piece. The most nerve wracking part of the day was getting out of the car in front of everyone that was waiting outside the venue. It was so surreal but I had to keep saying to myself
"Do not fall over in front of all of these people!"

Prom was such a lovely experience, the day brought feelings of fear, anticipation, enjoyment and then a slight sadness as I remembered it's the last time we will all be together. Seeing everyone all dressed up and happy was such a lovely way to remember the people I'd spent the last five years with. Through all the ups and downs secondary school really wasn't as awful as I thought it was at the time. I partly wish I could do it again, without the exams and pressure! If you still have time left enjoy it but now I can join the club of annoying people that tell you to do just that.

Love Always
Abby
